WE BELIEVE IN SMALL WARDROBES & GREAT PERSONALITIES

Founded in 2010, Hansen Garments has one clear aim: to make high quality, long-lasting and wearable clothes that reflect the individuality of the person who wears them.  Nordic sensibilities run through every aspect of the company: from a visual language that celebrates cold winters and bright summers to the appreciation of functionality and even the democratic way of making decisions and running the business, Scandinavia is at the very heart of the brand.  The clothes exist outside the whims of fast fashion, instead relying on quality, detail and classic good design to offer everyday garments that stand the test of time and become wardrobe favorites.

Designer Åse Hansen has a background that ranges from photography and art to product design and fashion. Born in Norway, she spent her childhood in Africa - an experience that allows her to see Nordic aesthetics through the lens of a world traveller. An obsessive about fabrics and tailoring details, she works alongside co-founder Per Chrois and a small Copenhagen-based team to source and produce the collections entirely within Europe.

Hansen is sold in some of the worlds most interesting independent stores, some of them well-known, others more off-the-beaten-track but all united in their common goals of offering great clothes with excellent service.  As well as wholesaling the biannual collections worldwide, Hansen Garments has two stand-alone stores - one in central Copenhagen and the other in the nearby leafy suburb of Frederiksberg.  Both locations stock the brand’s own clothes alongside a hand-picked selection of pieces from like-minded friends across the globe. Everything is also available from the Hansen Garments Store online.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

Hansen is slow fashion. We create clothes that last more than one season but instead become intrinsic parts of your wardrobe to be used year after year. New additions work well alongside old favorites. Moreover, we do not dictate your style, rather we offer pieces that can be put together is different ways to reflect your own individuality.

Using elements of classic menswear - from elegant tailoring to practical workwear - we create collections that are seasonless and merge seamlessly from one year to the next. We believe this is a modern, ethical and sustainable way of working in the clothing industry.

Craftmanship
AND SUSTAINABILITY COMPLIANCE

Quality and craftsmanship are central to everything we do: Hansen clothes are made to last. We use European and Japanese fabrics that we know will perform well in real life over time and all trims are carefully selected. We believe the connection between high quality, strong craftsmanship and good design make our garments into something truly special.

We all understand that the clothing industry has many and varied detrimental impacts on the world in which we live.  We also understand that we all have a responsibility to face these accusations and play our own part in reducing the negative footprint. Hansen Garments takes this seriously in a number of ways.

We champion the concept of slow fashion, with clothes that become a much-loved part of your wardrobe. This comes both through timeless, Nordic design that lasts many years and through good quality of fabric and construction that ensures the pieces endure.

We work exclusively with high quality suppliers and manufacturers with whom we have long term, loyal relationships centred on trust and mutual respect. This allows us to be sure that our production is ethical and responsible.

Wherever possible, we source surplus rolls of fabric and produce only to order to avoid over-production and waste. This allows us to use high quality materials and create limited edition pieces.

We go against industry norms and do not have end-of-season discounted sales and, by doing so, avoid propagating the circus of seasonal collections that have a built-in expiry date.

We only produce in Europe which allows us to keep a close eye on conditions and manufacturing techniques and also reduces the environmental impact and carbon emissions of long distance transportation.

We strive to work in an ethical and responsible manner - both internally and with external partners - and we comply with relevant laws and standards.

Going forward, we recognise the need to work with a more circular mindset that extends the lifespan of clothes through introducing re-use and re-pair solutions. We will also focus increasingly on sourcing certified materials for use in our collection development..

We know this is a long term operation and we fully understand that it will be an ongoing process with its fair share of challenges. However, we remain committed to this responsible journey, as it is a big part of our Nordic design tradition and personal passion.
